You will
be specifying, qualifying, and implementing system level
design of high current and high voltage power supplies into
large scale capital equipment. You will interface with all
global power supply vendors to insure supplies operate to
specification in a safe manor. Scope of responsibilities
includes high voltage cable design, environmental analysis,
and qualification protocol. Projects will include New
Product Development and Continuous Improvement, and will be
a team approach with Mechanical, Software, and other
Electrical Engineers.
Responsibilities will include:
-
Developing proper specifications and ratings of
regulated power sources based on electrical and
mechanical constraints, physics requirements, and
availability
-
Providing expertise for the system (ion implanter)
integration of power supplies including DFMEA,
packaging, interlocking, power-on sequencing, cable and
harness design, failure analysis, and reliability
-
Working
on a team with physicists and mechanical engineers on
new and continuous improvement designs
-
Supporting existing designs from a technical standpoint
(field failure analysis, obsolescence)
-
Testing
(bench and system) of new hardware to specification:
input and output quality, electrostatic discharge
immunity, transient protection, thermal behavior, etc.
-
Thermal
management of power supplies in implanter systems,
including rack placement and fan cooling design at
elevated ambient up to 50degC
-
System
(ion implanter) tests: develop appropriate test plan,
introduce abnormal behavior of the system, and conduct
thermal tests
-
Reliability tests: working with the vendor and VSEA
Reliability Engineering group to develop and execute
test plans
Qualifications:
-
Very good knowledge of regulated power supplies; ability to
understand and assess quality of the design including
component rating, protection (current, voltage and
temperature limits), loop control and interface, safety
-
Knowledge of current sources (5-250A) and voltage sources
(3-750kV)
-
Familiar with vacuum and ion beam load, and their effect on
high voltage devices.
-
Familiar with high voltage (arc protection, HV cabling, etc.)
and solid, gas, and liquid insulation
-
Project Management skills - ability to independently
execute all project phases from conceptual designs
through detailed design, prototype part procurement,
development test, reliability test, and release to
manufacturing.
-
Ability to apply engineering principles to understand
and affect design efforts outside of electrical
engineering (IE: mechanical, software, physics,
applications).
-
Ability to deliver technical presentations in support of
product proposals and engineering reviews.
-
Ability to work closely with
supply chain and
power supply
vendors
to assure new design quality and improvement of the
existing designs at optimum cost
-
Ability to mentor junior engineers
