Product Manager/Director

Position Summary
Responsible for managing the product analyst team and the delivery of projects for product development for Commercial Lines. Develop, implement and maintain insurance products, services and tools for field use. Knowledge of multiple lines of business and works closely with product directors in establishing priorities and plans to meet business objectives. Serves as an important link to other units including but not limited to the client’s Technology Group, Claims, Commercial Lines Operations, Compliance and Underwriting.

Key Position Responsibilities

·  Talent Management – Manage daily operations of team to achieve business objectives. Coach & mentor, providing business direction, and driving actions towards our business objectives. Develop, recruit & retain top talent. Work with product line directors to assist in development and mentoring of product analysts.

·  Responsible for prioritization and assignment of product development projects. Work with Product Directors and Commercial Lines Leadership to prioritize incoming work.

·  Product maintenance – Monitor environment to assure products stay current. Review ISO/AAIS/NCCI circulars, regulatory bulletins for product impact, recommend/take action. Monitor claims trends, recommend action. Modify coverage wording, regulatory notifications to policyholders. Respond to compliance issues. Develop IT system specifications; champion priority.

·  Product development – Develops or amends commercial insurance products including forms, rules and rating structures. Works in collaboration with Product Line Directors.

·  Filings/Compliance – Participate in market conduct reviews, internal audits and regulatory inquiries/investigations. Secure regulatory approval for new/revised products. Work with state insurance departments for rapid approvals. Represent commercial lines for compliance issues and projects including adherence to self audit process.

·  Communication, writing and negotiation skills

·  Strong attention to detail

·  Knowledge of regulatory requirements, legal concepts, claims/UW concepts and practice, processing environments

·  CL Underwriting Knowledge – Knows and demonstrates the ability to apply underwriting concepts, practices and procedures; including knowledge of exposure/hazard identification and control. Displays knowledge of pricing practices and applications. For multiple lines of business, able to articulate and practice principles of good underwriting, within specific limits and authority. Demonstrates good understanding of regional goals. Stays current with industry information, market trends and emerging loss exposures.

·  Product and Service Knowledge Consistently demonstrates exceptional business acumen and functional knowledge of product offerings, technologies, distribution channels and service strategies, as appropriate. Successfully applies this knowledge and experience to understand and resolve issues within own business and/or across the enterprise. Shows a high level of competitive intelligence and easily articulates this insight.

·  Minimum of 8 years experience in Property & Casualty insurance both as a Field Underwriter. Product Development is preferred.

·  Bachelor’s Degree and insurance designations is a plus.
