Tax Manager

This position will report to the Director of Taxes

Objective of the job:  Manage the company's sales and use tax function.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • 40 %    Manage sales/use tax audits from audit field work through to appellate proceedings, including negotiation of audit settlements, etc.

  • 20 %    Educate internal departments (e.g., Purchasing, IT, etc.)regarding the management of sales and use tax liabilities. Establish written company policies and procedures.

  • 10 %    Perform complex research concerning various sales and use tax topics.

  • 10 %    Work with IT to ensure an accurate and prompt flow of data into the Vertex tax return preparation system. Also, work with IT to provide support for audits.

  • 5 %      Manage the real estate tax function. Ensure that all tax bills are paid promptly. Ensure smooth coordination with real estate tax consultants.

  • 5 %      Prepare and file all business licenses, corporate annual reports, etc. Ensure that payments are made timely.

  • 5 %      Work with customers, vendors, etc. to resolve sales/use tax issues.

  • 5 %      Respond to various state and local tax notices and requests for information.

Education: Minimum Bachelor's degree. CPA a plus.

Experience:  At least ten years of progressive experience in the sales/use tax field. Experience with Massachusetts sales/use tax manufacturing issues is a plus. The experience should come from a mix of department of revenue, state and local tax group of an accounting firm, or large corporate tax department. Demonstrated tax specialization must be sales/use.
