Chief Financial Officer

Position Summary:

Reporting to the CEO/President, the CFO will be responsible for providing detailed financial information to the President and Board of Directors in support of meeting strategic business goals and objectives.  He/she will be responsible for all financial and fiscal management aspects of company operations.  The CFO will provide leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting, analysis and budgeting efforts of the company.  He/she will provide all appropriate relevant financial data necessary for budgetary and financial decisions.  The CFO will play a key role in evaluating potential deals, mergers, and acquisitions.   The CFO must develop and maintain strong external relations with financial institutions.   

Essential Functions:

  1. Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, tax planning, real estate, and conservation of assets.

  2. Directs the financial affairs of the company within the scope of responsibility delegated by the President.

  3. Directly supervises the Finance Director who insures that standard accounting principles are followed in keeping the financial records.

  4. Establishes and maintains financial objectives and policies.

  5. Works with department managers to prepare annual budgets and projections.

  6. Works with President and Senior Leadership Team to establish long-range priorities for operations and capital expenditures.

  7. Is responsible for accurate and timely cash flow projections, financial, and other reports as needed.

  8. Advises management concerning effects of economic changes upon operations.

  9. Identifies and institutes appropriate systems and state of the art technology, while adhering to all reporting requirements.

  10. Working knowledge of taxation for corporations and partnerships, strategic tax planning and multi-jurisdictional tax knowledge.  Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.

  11. Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents, department budgets, mass salary updates, ledger, and account maintenance and data entry.

  12. Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.

  13. Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.

  14. Interact with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.

  15. Ensure records systems are maintained in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards.

  16. Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.

  17. Assist in obtaining the necessary licenses and insurance required to start a business.

  18. Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders. Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas.

  19. Establish and implement short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.

  20. Serve on planning and policy-making committees.

  21. Oversee financial management of foreign operations to include developing financial and budget policies and procedures.

  22. Fulfill Corporate Secretary responsibilities.

Objectives:

  • Overhaul the Finance and Accounting Systems

  • Provide financial reports and analysis as directed by President

  • Lead analysis and evaluate all potential deals, mergers, and acquisitions

  • Maintain external relationships with banking and funding sources

  • Negotiate loans, lines of credit, and vendor terms

  • Manage a staff of 11 in Finance and Accounting

  • Represent the company externally to media, bank officers, government agencies and the general public

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff  

Education and Experience:

  1. Experience in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections. 

  2. Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, graduate degree preferred.  CPA designation preferred.

  3. Ten – fifteen years of experience in increasingly more complex financial management positions.

  4. Familiarity with financial services, retail, and distribution business.  Experience in oil/fuel business is ideal, but not required.

  5. Merger/acquisition experience.

  6. Work requires professional written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings. 

  7. Strong leadership experience and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Thorough knowledge of accepted accounting procedures and principles.

  2. Experience with budget preparation and financial management.

  3. Strong knowledge of tax laws and guidelines.

  4. Skill in capital management and investment.

  5. Demonstrated ability to train and supervise subordinates.

  6. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  7. Strong Management Experience.

  8. Knowledge of effective systems technology.
