Employee Relations Representative

We are assisting our client, a prestigious research and development organization focusing on national security, in their search for an Employee Relations Representative.

Reporting to the Employee Relations Manager, the incumbent will:

  • Work closely with management, supervisors and employees and advise and assist in a variety of employee relations actions including the interpretation/application of policies, applicability of state and federal employment laws, issues surrounding hiring, employment, performance feedback, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

  • Provide information and guidance to employees and managers regarding Laboratory Administrative Procedures, MIT Personnel Policies and associated processes (including FMLA, medical leaves of absence, ADA, site pay policies etc.). Will manage, monitor and administer FMLA and medical absence record keeping processes.

  • Receive, assess, respond and resolve internal and external complaints. This will include interviewing witnesses, analyzing factual evidence, identifying applicable laws, policies and procedures of significance, and preparing comprehensive reports and recommendations for outcome/action.

  • Occasionally participate in studies or serve on committees on employee relations issues. May prepare and deliver presentations to management and staff.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS

  • B.A./B.S. in Human Resources or related field and a minimum of five years relevant Human Resources employee relations efforts required. This includes demonstrated experience in employee/manager counseling on performance related topics; and FMLA/ADA, conducting internal investigations; and participating in external complaint response.  Candidates must:

  • Possess a thorough knowledge and experience with applicable state and federal employment laws and regulations

  • Have excellent interpersonal, coaching and negotiation skills, and have the ability to make sound decisions with minimal guidance

  • Be able to effectively prioritize and be responsive in a fast-paced environment. Excellent problem solving and teaming skills are needed

  • Have proficiency in Microsoft Office and SPHR certification desired.

Prior experience working in the Federal Contractor R&D industry sector is desired.
